Smartwatch NumberShare plans

Please note: if you have recently purchased a smartwatch, you must complete the NumberShare setup. For step-by-step instructions, refer to Question 10 below.

  1. What is NumberShare?
NumberShare allows a connected device and a smartphone to share the same phone number. NumberShare is currently available with iPhone and Apple Watch (Series 3 and higher), and with select Samsung smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy Watch. When a device is paired with a smartphone, it will be able to share the voice, text and data from the smartphone’s rate plan.
  2. What is required to set up NumberShare on my smartwatch?
    – An Apple Watch Series 3 or higher and an iPhone 6 or higher. The phone must be operating on iOS 12 or higher.
    – A Samsung Galaxy Watch or Watch Active 2 and a Samsung Galaxy smartphone (S7/7+ or higher, Note8 or higher, A8/A5/J3 or higher). The phone must be operating on Android 5.0 or higher.
    – A Hay Mobility postpaid account (consumer or small business) with a compatible plan and data.
    – A MyBell profile associated with the primary smartphone number. Register for MyBell if you haven’t already done so. Click Registering and Recovering MyBell Accounts associated with your Hay Mobility Account for help.
  3. How much does NumberShare cost?
There is no additional cost for the NumberShare add-on. The NumberShare add-on is included in the $10/month Smartwatch plan.
  4. Can I use NumberShare on my smartwatch with a non-Hay smartphone?
No, both devices must be activated on the Bell network (which your Hay smartphone uses) for NumberShare to work.
  5. How many devices can I use NumberShare with?
You can share your Hay smartphone number with up to five smartwatches.
  6. Can I share my number with other smartphones or my landline?
No, NumberShare only allows you to share your phone number with a secondary mobile device that is paired with a compatible smartphone.
  7. Can I use Smartwatch NumberShare across Canada?
Yes, your smartwatch with NumberShare will work in any VoLTE-covered region in Canada. Bell has VoLTE coverage in all provinces.
  8. Can I use NumberShare outside of Canada?
No, you currently cannot roam with your Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch. You can continue to use your smartwatch with Bluetooth while travelling to make and receive calls and to send and receive text messages. For more information on travelling with your smartphone and roaming, visit hay.net/services.
  9. Do my devices need to be close to each other for NumberShare to work?
No, they do not. You can use NumberShare on your smartwatch even if your smartphone is in a different location or turned off.
  10. How do I set up NumberShare?
You’ll be prompted to set up NumberShare when you first pair your smartwatch with your smartphone. If you decide not to set it up right away, you can always return to it later. View a step-by-step guide (PDF) on how to activate cellular service and NumberShare on your smartwatch. Note: you must be in Canada to complete the initial setup process.
  11. Where does my data usage for my smartwatch show up on my bill?
As part of the activation process, you’ll receive a 10-digit device identification number for your smartwatch. Associated data usage will appear on your bill under this number.
  12. I’ve changed the phone number on my smartphone that’s paired with my smartwatch and NumberShare has stopped working. What do I do?
Your Smartwatch plan must be reactivated. In most cases, it takes less than a minute. To do so, please follow these steps:
    For Apple Watch:
    1) Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
    2) Select Cellular from the My Watch tab.
    3) Tap on the “i” icon to the right of the Bell item.
    4) Select Manage to open the Bell web page.
    5) Select Reconnect cellular service on my watch.
    6) Tap the Reconnect button.
    For the Samsung Galaxy Watch:

    2) Select Settings > Mobile Networks > Manage.
    3) Select Manage to open the Bell web page.
    4) Select Reconnect cellular service on my watch.
    5) Tap the Reconnect button.
  13. How do I stop sharing my number with my smartwatch?
To stop sharing your phone number with your smartwatch, you’ll need to deactivate your monthly Smartwatch plan with NumberShare. Please call 519-235-3369 or 519-236-4333 to have one of our cell reps assist you. Please note that if you cancel your monthly Smartwatch plan, you’ll no longer be able to take advantage of the cellular features of your smartwatch: you’ll only be able to use your watch over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

REGARDING: “Requires an eligible rate plan with our Advanced Payment/Buyback Option.”

As soon as your monthly payments end (but before YOUR CONTRACT END DATE) you will face one FINAL PAYMENT, the residual value or Advanced Payment set-up for your Device on your contract start date, plus taxes.

You must make a decision. It will depend partly on the condition of your device. It will also depend on if you would prefer to continue with the current arrangement with that device or if you want to start another 2 year term with a new device.

YOU MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING BEFORE THE CONTRACT END DATE. All conditions are outlined in the Advanced Payment/Buyback Option Agreement.

You can:

  1. Pay the Advanced Payment Amount IN FULL (plus the financed taxes on this amount). At this point the contract is complete and your monthly payments will only be the amount of your service rate plan.
  2. Continue to make the device payment until the Advanced Payment amount is repaid in full. We will not charge interest on this amount unless you default on the payments.
  3. Come in to one of our office locations BEFORE the end of your term and ask a Cell Specialist to asses your device. If the Device is in good working condition, based on the factors outline on your Advanced Payment/Buyback Option Agreement, (also listed below) Hay will BUYBACK the Device for the full amount or an amount agreed on based on the condition of the Device, or we will not agree to Buyback the Device. At this point you must choose from Option 1 or 2.

What does “good working condition” mean?
The phone must be able to turn on and meet the following criteria:

  • The phone must navigate properly to its home screen.
  • The keyboard and/or touchscreen must be responsive and function properly.
  • The display and body of the phone must be free of any visible chips, cracks, missing parts, dead pixels or dark spots.
  • The battery and battery cover must be included.
  • For an Apple iPhone, the “Find My iPhone Activation Lock” function must be turned off and no longer linked to your Apple ID (iCloud account).
  • For an Android smartphone, “Activation Lock Protection” (also known as “Device Protection”) must be turned off.

If you end your Hay Financing agreement or service agreement early, or you change your rate plan to a non-eligible rate plan, your remaining device payments (BASED ON THE FULL AMOUNT BEFORE DISCOUNT such as promotional savings) will become due immediately and you will be subject to an early cancellation fee for your service agreement.

Current as of January 18, 2023. Available with new activation when adding additional lines on eligible 2-year plans (excluding Business, Tablet and Mobile Internet plans). There must be a primary subscriber activated on the account with an eligible rate plan to receive a $20 per line discount. Primary line not eligible for additional line discount.

Available with compatible devices within Bell Mobility’s network coverage areas. Speed and signal strength may vary due to traffic, topography, environmental conditions and other factors, including Bell’s Internet traffic management practices (e.g., priority access to emergency personnel and critical infrastructure personnel). See bell.ca/ITMP. Services subject to acceptable use restrictions including consuming excessive network capacity or causing our network to be adversely affected. See bell.ca/acceptableuse. If you end your Service Agreement early or you change your rate plan to a non-eligible rate plan, you will have to pay an early cancellation fee. The early cancellation fee consists of your remaining device payments and the remaining balance on your Agreement Credit (plus applicable taxes) if you received one at the time of purchase. The Device Return Option Deferred Amount (if applicable) will also come due. Subject to change without notice; not combinable with other offers. Additional one-time fees are subject to change over time. Taxes extra. Other conditions apply.

You can use data services in 195 countries, however, data usage is not included in your plan while roaming. When you are outside of Canada, you will incur data roaming charges when you use services such as email, visual voicemail, web browsing, BBM, and app downloads.

Tips to reduce data Charges:

Turn off data roaming and use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data for email, we browsing and other data services. Please note that Wi-Fi may not always work as a substitute for data roaming. Your smartphone may switch to a mobile network if the Wi-Fi signal is weak or if you leave the Wi-Fi coverage area, thus incurring data roaming charges. Ensure data roaming is disabled if you want to use Wi-Fi only.

Turn off the phone’s ability to fetch new data in applications such as email or social networking. Note that with these setting, you will have to manually check email and sync contacts and calendars. Data will no longer be pushed to your phone automatically. When you check these features, be sure you are on Wi-Fi only or data charges may apply.

Consult your user guide for information on how to change data and Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone.

Be sure to install the latest operating system to your smartphone before you leave.

Use a roaming bundle to save on roaming costs.
