Annual Scholarships
Hay Communications is dedicated to our rural youth. We are offering four scholarships in the amount of $1,500.

If you have a youth in your family who are in at least their second year of post-secondary education, please tell them about this opportunity. Here are the requirements:

  1. The applicant is enrolled full-time in the second, third or fourth year of a program at a Canadian post secondary institution and has not previously received a scholarship from Hay Communications.
  2. The applicant agrees to allow Hay Communications to publicize their name and photo in the event they are chosen as a recipient of the scholarship.
  3. The applicant or the Parent/Guardian of the applicant must be a customer of Hay Communications.
  4. Digital entries must be submitted with supporting documentation, before end of day October 31, 2025.

In the application, students are asked several questions about their community involvement, their career plans and extracurricular activities. The panel of judges also enjoys the unique answers to the question on “The Future of Technology in your Field”.

“Since 2007, Hay has been recognizing outstanding youth in our communities.”

Your Home Wi-Fi Connection
Are your household devices connecting to the internet through wi-fi, or are they “hard-wired”

It seems every new home appliance wants to send you some kind of information about how your food is cooking or what needs to be bought at the grocery store. You need to give some thought as to whether all the right devices in your home are “hard-wired” to the internet or if they are connecting through your wi-fi network.

Below is a list of some newer devices that are using the internet through your wi-fi router, and a list of devices that place a higher demand on your available internet bandwidth. If devices from the more demanding list below are not wired through CAT5 cable (hard-wired), they may be maxing out your wi-fi router capabilities. Multiple devices could also be an issue.

If you’re having internet problems, you need to consider if your wi-fi equipment can handle the number of devices accessing it, if you need a larger internet package, or if you may have an old wi-fi router. Don’t get frustrated, call us first. We can look at the equipment we have installed at your home to see which devices are using bandwidth at that time, and determine if equipment needs upgraded or if the problem could be resolved in another manner – such as hard-wiring more demanding electronics.
