Netgear Router Firmware Update

Netgear Firmware Update Instructions

If you are using a Netgear router that Hay Communications has provided you for your internet access and WiFi, these routers need to be checked for firmware updates.

What is firmware? Firmware is the computer software that is programmed into the router that allows it to function. Sometimes Netgear will release firmware updates to improve the routers functionality and security.

There are two ways to have your router checked for firmware updates. Please choose one of these options.

1) First Option: Follow these steps to do it yourself

  1. Open your web browser and log into the router by typing http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar, or click the link in this email.

  2. Log in with the username and password. The default is admin for the username and password for the password

  3. Click ADVANCED

  4. If a firmware update is available, you will see “A new firmware upgrade is available. Click here to get it.” next to the ADVANCED button you just clicked on. Click this to go to the firmware update page. If you did not see this notice, then you are good to go and can skip the rest of the steps.

  5. You will be asked if you want to upgrade to the new version. Click Yes.

    • The new firmware will now be downloaded. It will then automatically install and your router will reboot. Give this process 4-8 minutes without touching anything.
It will first do the download as shown below.

Following the download, it will do the install as shown below.

    • After the install, it will update the router settings.  Please wait for the router to reboot

  6. After the reboot, it will prompt for you to log in again.  You can click cancel and you can close the browser as the upgrade is done.  Nice work!

2) Second option: Call Internet Support

  1. Dial 519-238-4500 and ask to do a screen connect and allow support to do these steps for you.
